Networking, cooperation and managerial meetings for the implementation of the SESN project

Development of cooperation networks in Greece and Turkey for the implementation of the SESN project

1. A network of cooperation was established in Greece for the implementation of the project’s activities through in-person meetings and contacts, the aforementioned interministerial meeting, electronic and phone communication and the implementation of the training activity with the following agencies and authorities:

  • Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Office of the National Rapporteur on Trafficking in Human Beings
  • Ministry for the Protection of the Citizen: Hellenic Police (Aliens and border protection branch – border protection division and aliens division, anti-trafficking unit)
  • Ministry of Interior and Administrative Reconstruction: First Reception Service
  • Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy: Hellenic Coastguard – Security Branch (Security and Protection Sea Border)
  • Ministry of Justice, Transparency and Human Rights: General Directorate of Crime and Penitentiary Policy in which the Directorate of Crime Policy and Minors Probation Officers’ Service refer to
  • Ministry of Labour, Social Security and Social Solidarity: Office of the Deputy Minister for Social Solidarity; Department for the protection of refugees and asylum seekers; National Centre for Social Solidarity
  • Ministry of Health: National Health Operations Centre, University General Hospital of Alexandroupolis, General Hospital of Chios “Skilitseio”, Athens General Children’s Hospital “Pan. & Aglaia Kyriakou” – Child Psychiatry Department

2. A Turkish network of cooperation among agencies coming into contact with minor victims of trafficking and/or unaccompanied minors entering illegally in Greece has been established through in-person meetings and contacts, official communication and the implementation of the training activities as presented below:

  • In Izmir: Izmir Family and Social Policy Directory, Izmir Immigration Management Directory, Karsikaya Court, Izmir, Dokuz Eylul University Medical School, Izmir, Izmir Custom Police, Izmir Department of Children Police, Izmir Police Passport Department, Izmir Public Health Directory

Networking Meeting in Greece

On Monday 10th February 2014 the scientific team of the Department of Mental Health and Social Welfare of the Institute of Child Health organized the first networking meeting between representatives of Greek ministries and their regulated entities in the context of the project “Southeast Safe Net: Preventing child trafficking and protecting unaccompanied minors in Greek-Turkish Borders”. The aim of the meeting was to enable the various parties involved to discuss in more detail the content of their cooperation regarding the “SESN” project, and, also, the schedule of project's planned activities.

Apart from the scientific team of the Department of Mental Health and Social Welfare of the Institute of Child Health, the networking meeting was attended by representatives of the following Greek Ministries and their regulated entities: Ministry of Foreign Affairs -Office for the Combating of Human Trafficking, Ministry of Justice, Transparency and Human Rights – Direction of Juvenile's Criminality Prevention and Penitentiary Treatment, Ministry of Health -National Center for Emergency Care, National Health Operations Center, Ministry of Labor, Social Security& Welfare – Department of Family, Department of Social Awareness and Solidarity, Ministry of Public Order and Citizen Protection– Department for Child Protection (Cyber Crime Center), Public Security Division -Anti-trafficking Team, Attica Aliens Directorate.

 

Kick-off Managerial Meeting

On 30.06.2014 the scientific team of the Department of Mental Health and Social Welfare of the Institute of Child Health organized the kick-off managerial meeting of the project “Southeast Safe Net:Preventing child trafficking and protecting unaccompanied minors in Greek-Turkish Borders” together with its associates from Turkey, external evaluator from UK and representative from the Ministry of Justice, Transparency and Human Rights (14 participants). The scientific team of the Institute of Child Health discussed about the activities of “SESN” project and each partner described their official role in the management of child trafficking and of unaccompanied minors and possible ways of contributing to the aims and activities of the project.

The managerial meeting took place at the Ministry of Justice, Transparency and Human Rights.

 

Coordination and cooperation meetings in Greece and Turkey

1. The 1st Coordination and cooperation meeting took place in Athens, Greece on 1.07.2014, at the President Hotel.

It was attended by representatives of the partner ministries and their regulated entities, the two experts from Turkey, the external evaluator of the project, Professor Kevin Browne, and the scientific team of the Department of Mental Health and Social Welfare of the Institute of Child Health (ICH) - 20 participants in total. The ICH scientific team presented the planned activities of “SESN” project; each partner described their official role in the management of child trafficking and of unaccompanied minors; and all of them discussed about  possible ways of contributing to the aims and activities of the project.

2. The  2nd Coordination and cooperation meeting took place in Izmir, Turkey on 24-26.08.2015, at the Dokuz Eylul University, Distance Learning Application and Research Centre. 

It was attended by representatives from the Izmir Immigration Management Directory, Izmir Public Health Deputy Directory, Izmir Family and Social Policy Directory, Izmir 112 Emergency Medical Services, Izmir Police (Child department and Passport control department), Dokuz Eylul University, by the ICH-SESN scientific team, the external evaluator from the UK, the two project's external partners from Turkey and representatives from the National Rapporteur's Office on combating trafficking in human beings (GR), the Greek Ministry of Justice, Transparency and Huamn Rights, and the First Reception Service (GR)- 24 participants in total.
